Michael Schmutter

UWS Physical Therapist

Michael Schmutter earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy from Touro College in New York City in 2021. Prior to receiving his doctorate, Michael earned his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from The University at Buffalo.

Michael’s passion for physical therapy began after he had knee surgery in high school. He saw firsthand how physical therapy can improve someone’s quality of life and help people achieve their goals. Since then, his passion for health and wellness has evolved into something much greater.

While at Touro College, Michael had unique experiences during his clinical rotations in which he was exposed to various diagnoses and populations at Symbio Physiotherapy, Crown Heights Center for Nursing and Rehab, NYU Langone Center for Men’s Health and NYU Langone Orthopedic and Sports Performance Center. He also co-authored a research study investigating running related injuries and their relationship to cross-training in marathoners and triathletes. Additionally, Michael graduated at the top of his class at Touro College, earning awards for highest clinical achievement and academic excellence.

Michael’s expertise is treating orthopedic conditions for the everyday individual, older adult, weekend warrior or higher level athlete whether that is surgical or non-surgical in nature. He takes an individualized, holistic, and evidence-based clinical approach that looks at the entire individual – not just their injury site. He combines his knowledge of manual therapy, patient education, and exercises to help patients achieve their goals, ambitious objectives and become the best version of themselves.

Outside the clinic, Michael personally stays active with strength training, bike riding, running, meditating and practicing yoga. He loves to spend time in nature, read/listen to podcasts about anything health/wellness, hang with his friends and family, try new restaurants and explore NYC.
